As I stand in the midst of my latest project, a cozy home nestled in the heart of a bustling city, I reflect on the profound impact that art has on our living spaces.
My name is Vishakha Chavan Somwanshi, and as an architect, I believe that the essence of a home lies not just in its structure, but in the art that adorns its walls and fills its corners with life.

From the very beginning, I envisioned this home as a sanctuary—a place where the chaos of the outside world would fade away, replaced by tranquility and warmth. I remember the first meeting with the homeowners, a young couple eager to create a space that resonated with their personalities. They spoke of their love for art, how it brought them joy and comfort, and I knew then that our journey together would be about more than just bricks and mortar.
As we began to design the layout, I encouraged them to think about how art could play a role in every room. We discussed the calming effects of soft colors and serene landscapes, envisioning a peaceful bedroom adorned with gentle hues that would invite restful nights. In the living room, we imagined a vibrant abstract piece that would spark conversation and creativity, a dynamic focal point that would energize the space.
One of my favorite moments was when we visited a local artist’s studio. The couple was captivated by a large mural depicting a lush forest, its colors alive and inviting. They decided to commission the artist to create a similar piece for their home, a reminder of nature’s beauty that would bring a sense of peace and connection to the outdoors. I could see the excitement in their eyes as they envisioned the mural transforming their living space into a dynamic environment.
As the construction progressed, I made sure to incorporate niches and display areas where art could shine. I designed a gallery wall in the hallway, a space that would evolve over time as they collected new pieces that spoke to their journey together.
